In our rapidly changing oceans, the ability to monitor the marine environment with both broad coverage and high precision is critical. We develop innovative spectroscopy-based optical in situ chemical sensing techniques that enable continuous measurements of a wide range of substances throughout the global ocean. Our research core is technical development, and it spans the spectrum from fundamental science to real-world application: from exploring the oceanographic significance of targets and understanding analytical principles, to developing and deploying sensing systems in the open sea and interpreting complex datasets. We tackle these challenges through active interdisciplinary collaborations with a global network of scientists and engineers. By providing data with high spatial and temporal resolutions from the sea surface to the deep seafloor, we aim to track dynamic distributions and changes of chemical substances in the oceans, establishing breakthrough techniques for marine environmental monitoring.
